Random House: New York, 1955.  Fireside Theatre Book Club Edition.  Illustrated with photos from the play.

Adapted from Hayes' 1954 novel of the same title, The Desperate Hours concerns a family of four, living in a suburb of Indianapolis, whose quiet home is invaded by three convicts recently escaped from prison.  It was the recipient of several drama awards, including two Tonys.

Signed "all best wishes" and dated 2/13/62 by Paul Newman.  Newman played the convict leader on Broadway.

From the collection of "First Fan" Jack Cordes, a long-time collector with connections to Hollywood.  A major portion of Cordes' collection was auctioned by Heritage, and this copy has the original Heritage Auctions lot and auction number information.

A near fine copy in like dust wrapper with lightly toned spine.

An early and nice example of Newman's signature.
